Getting Started with KeePass

Introduction

KeePass is a free, open-source password manager that helps you store and manage all your passwords in one secure location. This guide will walk you through everything you need to know to get started with KeePass.

Step 1: Download and Install

The first step is to download KeePass for your operating system. Visit our download page and select the version for your platform (Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, or iOS).

1. Go to the download page
2. Select your operating system
3. Download the installer
4. Run the installer and follow the setup wizard

Step 2: Create Your First Database

When you first launch KeePass, you'll need to create a password database. This is where all your passwords will be stored.

• Click "File" → "New" or press Ctrl+N
• Choose a location to save your database
• Create a strong master password
• Optionally create a key file for additional security
• Click "OK" to create your database

Step 3: Add Your First Password

Now that you have a database, you can start adding passwords. Here's how:

1. Right-click in the entry list
2. Select "Add Entry"
3. Enter a title (e.g., "Gmail")
4. Enter your username
5. Click the key icon to generate a password, or enter your existing password
6. Click "OK" to save

Step 4: Organize Your Passwords

Keep your passwords organized by creating groups. Right-click in the folder list and select "Add Group" to create categories like "Work", "Personal", "Social Media", etc.

• Use a strong, unique master password
• Create regular backups of your database
• Organize entries into logical groups

• Enable automatic locking after inactivity
